Electrospun polyurethane nanofibers coated with polyaniline/polyvinyl alcohol as ultrafiltration membranes for the removal of ethinylestradiol hormone micropollutant from aqueous phase

Estrogenic hormones at significant levels are a serious cause of fish femininity, breast and ovarian cancer as consequence hormonal imbalance. This study reports the fabrication electrospun polyurethane (PU) nanofibers modified by coating with polyaniline/polyvinyl alcohol (PANI/PVA) to form filtration membranes for enhanced removal ethinylestradiol (EE2) estrogenic hormone. Structural morphological characterization was performed FTIR, SEM optical microscopy, while detection quantification EE2 were analysed using HPLC. To understand material characteristics, feasibility results based on contact time kinetics determine adsorption capacity coated PU further investigated. Findings demonstrated that best fitted pseudo-second-order kinetics. Furthermore, process optimised via response surface methodology central composite design model varying parameters such pH, temperature, concentration adsorbate, adsorbent dosage determine. It found had maximum 2.11 mg/g high percentage efficiency ~82.20% EE2. Adsorption mechanism thermodynamics also evaluated, depicted occurred intraparticle diffusion exothermic in nature. Finally, reusability done over six adsorption-desorption cycles test consistent effectiveness membrane, which remained above 80% capacity. Overall, findings indicate treated stabilized PANI particles possess potential an effective eradicating other from environment.
